Abstract

Succession signifies the transfer or transference of rights from one party to another. In every legal system, provisions must be established for the distribution of property at the demise of the person who held and enjoyed it. The law of succession has become simpler and gender neutral with the advent of time. This paper does an extensive study on the concept of succession laws and all the rules and regulations to be followed while inheritance under the Muslim and Hindu law. Along with that, succession rights of females are also studied under both the law in order to understand their position in the 21st century. A comparison is done in the end to understand the differences between these laws.
